Samuel Meyler

Having graduated as a conservational biologist, he worked in various places throughout Africa with endangered mammals, more specifically cetaceans and primates. Later he moved to Paris and then Brussels where he studied physical movement and theatre, of which he now currently teaches various courses in Lisbon and abroad. He also ran his own theatre company in Ireland for a number of years, and worked as a performer in a contemporary circus.

He is currently funded by the FCT in Estudos Artisticos, and is undergoing a PhD in the Performing Arts as a collaboration between the Champalimaud Neuroscience Program and the Faculdade de Letras in the University of Lisbon. He is interested in the role of the body in providing social information, and his work incorporates both behavioural neuroscience and physical theatre. He also has co-created various projects that bring artists and scientists together in an attempt to create a third space between the disciplines.
